x-mas.

merry christmas, guys.

Jesus sought me when a stranger,
wandering from the fold of God.
he, to rescue me from danger,
interposed his precious blood.

o to grace, how great a debtor,
daily i'm constrained to be!
let thy goodness, like a fetter,
bind my wandering heart to thee.
prone to wander, Lord, i feel it,
prone to leave the God I love.
here's my heart, O take and seal it,
seal it for thy courts above.

heart it races.

so i'm done with this, but that's mike's hat in the process (and our christmas tree in the background). i might put a picture up eventually. maybe of him wearing it. i started it... monday, dec. 15 and finished the 17th. i screwed up and had to take a lot out but it's good now. i hope. i hope it fits his huge head.

that is a scarf i made for elizabeth cusanelli. i hope she likes it. it was fun to make, because i've never used yarn like that before. or a pattern like that before. joy is modeling it. :]

psalm for the elks lodge last call

with the traffic and our heartbeats
beating in straight time
let our hatred and affection
march in the same line
before we say goodnight.
oh protect our secret handshake
once more with feeling
let the toast to absent members
push through the ceiling
before we say goodnight.

vacation?

i never update, that makes me sad. so here's my update: i met a boy and he's incredible. thank you, jesus, for giving me someone i do not deserve in the least, and making me so happy already. and for real happy. it's an amazing feeling that i thought i should document somewhere. <3

oh, and i finished a hat. i totally made up the pattern. pictures will follow, sometime.

green scarf.

i'm making this for me, because i desperately need a scarf. i bought this yarn from michelle graves, it's hand dyed and hand spun. i'm guessing the care instructions and wash delicate and air dry. anywho, i don't remember when i started it, sometime towards the end of october though. it's taking a while cause i've been busy:

Friday, October 31, 2008

been a while, crocodile.

ok i made two scarves (started oct 9, ended oct 17?), finished the main part of danielle's diaper bag, the pocket (i need to make one more), and one handle. i started making a scarf for myself with the yarn michelle graves sold to me. i'm trying to knit as much as i can, but it's so hard haha. i'll add pictures if i remember lol.

new!

okay okay. i'm still working on that diaper bag, i finished the mushroom hat, and made a new one too. i'm so excited for the fall. i got sock yarn! my first socks! haha.

okay so this came out waay too small, i don't know what the pattern was thinking, but it would make a great children's hat. i put it on etsy.com, but if it doesn't sell i might give it to my mom's friend's daughter. finished this august 6th.

this is my hat! so excited for it, cause it's basically the first thing i made for myself haha. it's so soft and super warm. i started september 13th and finished the 15th.

this is just another picture of my pom-pom mitten. i should put it in the other entry... but i'm too lazy. maybe some other time.

that's all for now. i'm knitting a scarf but i'm gonna take it out and start over. autumn starts in 5 days! :]

Hat and Mittens and Diaper Bag.

so ok all i do is knit. haha. thanks becca. here's some things i've been working on:

this is a diaper bag i'm making for george and danielle, because they are expecting twins! haha, and this is all i've got so far. i have about 10 inches left to go, and the edges are like curled underneath. it's wider than it looks. and the yellow looks different in those pictures haha.

this is a 'mushroom hat' and i'm so excited for it. i'm so so close to being done, only a few rows left, but i don't have the needles yet. i ordered them yesterday, so i'm waiting ever so patiently for them. sigh. i'll sell this on etsy.

pom-pom mittens! everyone loves pom-poms so i decided to throw them on mittens. i'm selling these on etsy.com for 4.50. is that too much? anyway. go here. loveinmadness.etsy.com. haha there's like nothing on there, but still. :]

update: 2 people were found dead and dismembered in my town. crazy.

okay, i wanna make a little kid beanie with bear ears. i'm starting tomorrow. but i also want to make finger puppets. so after the beanie, finger puppets.

cigar.

i'm knitting a cigar for my stepdad because i could not think of what to get him, and he loves cigars. i do not support his cigar smoking habit at all, which is why i'm making this. the next time he wants to light up he can look at this, laugh, and forget about what he wanted to do. i think i'm too naive.

um it isn't purple, it's brown, idk why it looks like that haha. i started this last night, june 12th, at approximately 7 pm. this picture was taken at around 2 am. and its supposed to say 'game' because thats what his cigars say.

oh and p.s. i made another rasta hat (like the one below that my sister casey is wearing), and put it up on etsy. buy it!

reminders.

so in church, pastor jenson has been focusing on these few verses the last few weeks:
romans 1:18-23 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.
kind of long, but whatevs. anyway, so it made me think of how everyday i exchange things for God so easily. why? because of what paul wrote in that verse. because we are all conceived in sin and sin separates us from God, so we then put anything and everything in his place. i watch oprah sometimes, and hearing about that new earth book reminds me of how we love replacing God with ourselves because we were born so human centered. it brings me right back to Jesus. scripture reminds us constantly of our sinful nature, more famously in the book of romans, but it's everywhere. Jesus himself called the pharisees children of the devil. what did the pharisees do? they relied on themselves for eternal salvation, which is what everyone does, everyday, without Christ. and this is exactly why he came. he came, died, and rose from the dead to prove that he is God and he walked here as man (fully both) to reconcile God and man. if he was only one or the other, he is not the savior. but he was, and he is, to people who repent of their sin and trust him, not themselves, for salvation (aka doing good things, being nice, attending church at christmas or... funerals). anyway, i wrote this as a reminder that i am soooo a sinner (and that sentence didn't make any grammatical sense) and that Christ is what i need everyday for sustenance. and not only that, but salvation.

and on that note, i need to continue knitting. soli Deo gloria.

star wars.

so my fiance is obsessed with star wars, and for his birthday, i decided to make him a chewbacca stuffed animal. i basically just followed the same pattern as the monster bear, but bigger. anyway, i only took one picture and here it is (chewbacca's on the left). i started this may 27th and finished the 30th. i procrastinated.

hat.

so i started making this hat with semi-intentions to sell it, and my sister decided she wanted it, so here it is. i'm going to start another one soon, to sell it. i need money, yo! but i really like how it came out. thank you becca for fixing the pattern and making this hat first haha. ps this was the first time i used: 3 skeins at once, circular needles, dpn's (more than one at a time, lol), and making a hat. all were firsts for me lol. so, pretty excited about the turn out. and i started this yesterday. :]

SDG

i wish you would step back from that ledge my friend...

okay, that was a dedication to jo stout.

anyway, my baby jumper is halfway finished. i finished it wednesday or thursday. it looks weird on my compter like that, but there was sauce on the tablecloth. ew. so that's that. i'm adding a new entry for the hat i made. and ps, i hope someone forces me to finish this jumper. i need to do the back part and i have a feeling i'm not gonna do it. help!

jumper.

i've been knitting a baby jumper (3-6 month old) for about 2 weeks now. i've been trying to knit it every second i get because it's a seed stitch for 8 1/2 in. and its 101 stitches wide, so it took forever to get past that point. but last night i reached that goal, so i'll post pictures when it gets to look more like a jumper haha.

my first pair of mittens.

I made these in January/February. Aw, first mittens ever.

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

basically my best friend.

he's a doll, really. he wanted to model the baby mittens and my yarn (under his shirt...) and my knitting needles. oh justin.

baby mittens and socks.

the baby mittens pattern was found in my roommates pattern book from like, the 60s haha. and the cable socks we got from a baby knitting book. i made the mittens in february i think, and the socks i started making in the beginning of the month and finished the 18th. They are probably for different size babies, haha.

julie's slippers.

my fiance's sister wanted slippers so i made them. the pattern sucked so they came out worse than i wanted them to, but the yarn makes them warm and they fit her so it worked i guess. i started making them in the middle of march and finished them march 27th. hey, i do more than just knit ok?

peace and SDG!

mom's scarf.

I made this for mi madre for her birthday. I found out from my sisters she doesn't wear it. Oh well, it was so much fun to make.

bambew.

I made this scarf from bamboo yarn, the softest yarn ever! Since it's so thin I made it real long so I can wrap it around lots. It's good for the start of cold weather. It's got kind of a checkered pattern.

little monstah bear. :]

heyy it's me. and a little monster bear. he didn't felt very well, and it was lion brand felting yarn. so, i guess i suck at felting. oh well.

again, this is from one skein wonders (i want to try to make everything in the book, so sorry, you'll get sick of me soon) by a little monster bear expert wendy gross.

materials:
-size 10 straight needles and two size 10 double pointed needles.
-book calls for malabrigo merino worsted (100% merino wool) color oceanos.
-polyfil, plastic eyes, and a tapestry needle.

pattern for body:
-cast on 8 stitches using long tail method. leave 10" tail.
-*k1, kfb; repeat from *. you now have 12 stitches.
-rows 2 and even numbered rows to 10: purl.
-row 3: *k2, kfb; repeat from *. now you have 16 stitches.
-row 5: *k2, kfb; repeat from * to last stitch, k1. now 21 stitches.
-row 7: *k3, kfb; repeat from * to last stitch, k1. 26 stitches!
-row 9: *k3, kfb; repeat from * to last 2 stitches, k2. now 32 stitches.
-work in stockinette until piece measures 3.5".

pattern for neck:
-row 1: *k4, k2tog; repeat from * to last 2 stitches, k2. 27 stitches? good.
-row 2: *p3, p2tog; repeat from * to last 2 stitches, p2. 22 stitches.
-row 3: knit.
-row 4: purl.
-row 5: *k6, kfb; repeat from * to last stitch, k1. 25 stitches.
-work in stockinette until whole thing measures 5.5".

pattern for head:
-row 1: *k2, k2tog; repeat from * to last stitch, k1. 19 stitches.
-row 2: purl.
-row 3: *k1, k2tog; repeat from * to last stitch, k1. 13 stitches left.
-row 4: *p1, p2tog; repeat from * to last stitch, p1. 9 stitches!
-bind off leaving 24" tail.

pattern for legs (don't forget to make two!):
-cast on 9 stitches with long tail method.
-rows 1 and 3: knit.
-row 2: purl.
-row 4: p2, p2tog, p1, p2tog, p2.
-row 5: k1, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k1.
-work in 10 rows of this 5-stitch I-cord.
-bind off leaving 10" tail.

pattern for arms (make twooo):
-cast on 7 stitches with long tail method.
-row 1: knit.
-row 2: purl.
-row 3: k1, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k1.
-row 4: p1, p2tog, p2.
-work in 8 rows of 3 stitch I-cord.
-Bind off leaving 10" tail.

-assemble him! turn the body inside out and sew from head to butt. leave about 1" open in both top and bottom so you can have room to stuff him with polyfil. turn him right side out and stuff him, but don't overstuff (i think that was my problem). finish stitching and pull up extra tail through body out of the head.

-stitch up the feet and arms at the heel and wrist parts creating little pockets to stuff. the part you stitched with I-cord you do not sew or stuff.

-using the tails from casting on and binding off, attach the legs and arms to the body. attach the eyes. stitch up the head opening, and stitch the ears to his head securely with the tails from the ears. weave in ends.

-felting. sigh. i'm never good at this (never being, i think i tried once before). put your bear in a pillowcase and tie it up. put him in a washing machine with jeans or another heavy material and wash him. if necessary keep doing it until he's how you want him to be. blot excess water with a towel and allow him to dry.

there are other ways of felting that you can google and try. have fun cuddling with him.

oh ps the I-cord stitch: you put the stitches onto your double pointed needles and stitch the first row normal, then you do NOT turn needle around, but slide it to the other end. knit as usual with the working yarn stretching across the stitches. looks and feels weird at first but i love the I-cord.

peace and SDG.

centipedes.

yay it worked! here is my centipede that i made my sister.

and here is my sister with her centipede. pattern and yarn type i'll add in later, i'm just excited the pictures work finally.

k i got the pattern for the centipede in the book one skein wonders by patricia colloton-walsh. he was really easy.

materials:
-size 8 straight needles.
-the book says tahki trio color 005 but i used yarn i had leftover from my mittens.

pattern:
-cast on 56 stitches.
-rows 1, 3, 5: knit.
-rows 2, 4, 6: purl.
-row 7: k4, make 50 loops*, k2.
-rows 8-15: knit.
-row 16: repeat row 7.
-rows 17, 19, 21: knit.
-rows 18, 20, 22: purl.
-bind off.

finishing:
fold centipede in half lengthwise (like a hot dog!) with right side facing, and sew the seam starting at the "head" and as you go, stuff with polyfil. embroider the eyes with some leftover black yarn. ta da!

knitted.

Regular knit pattern. This is what I started with before I did the Magic Scarf pattern. I don't really know what to do with it though lol.

SDG.

new blog!

Ok so I made this scarf to finish the skein. I can't remember the yarn, Red Heart maybe? Anyway, it's a magic scarf pattern that I got from Crazy Aunt Purl's blog. It's just knit 5 purl 5 for ten rows, then purl 5 knit 5. This was made in the beginning of January 08. Hooray!
